This was free for my Kindle, and I'd recently read one of the author's other books ("Leave Her to Heaven). This sounded like a good read, so I downloaded it. I found the plot to be rather hard to believe. A lovely young woman willing marries a complete repulsive whaling captain who is years older than she, and accompanies him as the lone woman on the ship (unlikely). He is drunk and abusive, as well as physically repulsive, smelly, etc., but she loves him anyway (again, hard to believe. There are endless descriptions of killing whales (pages and pages, again and again, how often do we have to read about the "spout turning red"). Whales are referred to as "fish" (not). It's also so dated...in one section the bride, Faith, is described as sitting with her legs crossed, and this is described as a position that is impossible for men to achieve, just as women cannot learn to throw a ball (really?). I'm still slogging through this and am almost done, thank God.Product details

The Sea Bride Ben Ames Williams 9781290414487 Books Reviews
Ben Ames Williams is one of my favorite authors and I am pleased that this is in print.
extremely interesting...very good read! you feel like you are on the ship!
This is a wonderful read. It has a bit of romance, a bit of adventure, and a quite a bit of fighting, all well tied in. It is hard to write in a setting as confined as a ship but this author pulled it off magnificently. I recommend this book to just about everyone, as it holds a bit of everything.
