The storm accompanied him back to his ancestral home. A neglected and tumbled mansion of extreme proportions, swept by frigid drafts and haunted by weeping ceilings where tiles had long since given up their near vertical existence to fling themselves in dejected surrender to the cobbled courtyards below. Rory had no clear memory of the numerous rooms, but recalled the terrible chill that had given him a lasting distaste for Northern England, before his mother had lifted him from his bed at the age of four, and stolen him away to Southern France.
The greeting he received on arrival nearly thirty years later was unusual to say the least. A crazy young woman, wearing a torn gown, and brandishing a bloody knife, tearing towards him like a spectre of both faded and torrid colours; a drunken lord, bleeding profusely from his wound, and bellowing for vengeance; and an unconscious young man, dissipated beyond his years, who happened to be Rory’s only remaining paternal relation.
And his response in return? Why, to throw back his head and bellow with laughter before drawing his sword and standing tall, with tawny head thrown back on wide shoulders, daring these occupants, and daring the Fates to try their luck. Because he was the Black Sheep, and would take no opposition to this much valued, and well earned title.
But someone decided to save his soul, because she truly believed it was worth the effort of saving. After all, hadn’t he strode in with the storm wailing at his back, and by so doing saved her life? Grace admitted she’d not set herself an easy task, but Rory’s disturbing presence was by far preferable to the tedium of life before he’d returned, a wolf to the fold.

I got a few chapters in but couldn't finish the book. The heroine has been left in the care of her step-brother, who is a gambler, a drunk and seems to be dying from consumption. During a drunken evening he wagers her and loses. The guy who won her attempts to reap his reward, but she stabs him with a knife and runs.Enter the hero at that moment. He is the rightful heir to the estate and he saves her from being raped.
I will say it was refreshing to have a hero who didn't put up with the uppity neighbors. He put them all in their place quickly. But the heroine goes quickly from a shy virgin who was almost ravished to being a near wanton. The girl is throwing herself at him. I am serious -- it moved along that fast.
Didn't care for either of the main characters, and I knew there was bound to be a book that was better.

A charming mix of romance and swashbuckling adventure sure to delight the reader for several hours of pleasant reading.
This was an excellent book also. I could not put it down. Looking forward to the next book coming out later in the year.
I look for quick reading books...at age 91 I read to pass the time. This is why I have enjoyed my ...I'm not as swift as I once was with all the new in and outs of the computer world.
I still volunteer at our local downtown Chamber and Genealogy rooms one to two days a week for four hours. A great way to keep active and still read my when we are not busy.
While in Indiana for the past three months I found Eugenia Price's books and reread many of her old books. That was fun.

Rough, Romantic, and captivating.
Intrigue, Hardship, and Hatred abound.
But the Black Sheep's love of his beautiful and surprisingly able wife, conquer's all.
I enjoyed the the way the story is told and the well developed characters. I was easily drawn into the plot and felt the characters come to life, mature and become who they really were supposed to be. It was fast paced with lots of things going on, yet not nerve-racking, which for me was a bonus.
Our hero rides to the rescue just in time. He also succumbs to our heroine's beauty and sweet nature. Who will try to break up the blissful couple. Ahh, so many villains. Please read this book and find out who seeks to harm the loving couple.
Historical romance. Before the French king is executed. Takes place in England and France. Not a lot of history or descriptions, just a story. A couple of crazy people to make them guard their lives. I liked it. Not a can't put down book, but good enough to read when you have time.
